Our hero and heroine, Luke fon Fabre and Tear Grants (respectively), first meet Jade after he apprehends them and takes them aboard the Tartarus, a landship belonging to the Malkuth empire. Jade joins them as a powerful fonist (basically, a magic user), but he is soon hit with a "fon slot seal" which decreases his abilities greatly, because sticking a level 45 character into your party at the very beginning would be far too nice. Jade ends up traveling with Luke and co. as representative of Malkuth, and as the oldest member of the party serves the role of a logical thinker despite his seemingly silly and sarcastic nature. Though this role is taken more out of neccessity than anything else.
